Kenneth L. "Kenny" Nicolet, 52, died July 3 at his home in Great Bend. He was born Nov. 17, 1956, at Great Bend, the son of Neuell and Mary Wilmajean Dirks Nicolet. He married Cecelia J. Bussen on Dec. 10, 1983, at Great Bend. He was a lifetime resident of Great Bend.
Mr. Nicolet was a farmer. He received the "Outstanding Farmer of the Year" award for the state of Kansas from the Jaycees organization. He also received the Century Farm award and won the Windbreaker Award from the Kansas Bankers Association. He was a lifetime member of FFA. He was a member of Barton County Farm Bureau, and Great Bend Co-op.
He was a member of Central Baptist Church and served on various church boards. He was also a Boy Scout. He was active in Big Brothers and Big Sisters and was an avid ATV enthusiast and member of Central Kansas Off Road Association.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; son Darren L. Nicolet, Great Bend; two daughters, Sabrina Nicolet-Nichols, Derby, and Katie L. Nicolet, Great Bend; father and stepmother, Neuell and Elnora Nicolet, Augusta; sister Connie Dandy, Great Bend; three stepbrothers, LeRoy Seba, Jimmy Seba and Kenny Seba; and stepsister Barbara Hodge; one grandchild, Cameron Nichols, and special "Little Brother" Mason. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary W. "Jean" Nicolet.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Central Baptist Church, Great Bend, with the Rev. Dr. Joan Harrington and Pastor John Grummon officiating. Interment will be in the Great Bend Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today at Bryant Funeral Home, with family receiving friends from 7 to 8. Memorials are suggested to Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Central Kansas or Central Baptist Church, in care of the funeral home. Condolences may be sent and notice viewed at www.bryant fh.net.
